A lifelong resident of Wilmington says he's the right man to lead the city for the next four years.

In the first of a WDEL ElectionWatch series, Allan Loudell speaks with State Representative Dennis Williams about why Williams wants to be the next mayor.

Williams says that despite his time in Dover, he's committed to Wilmington for the future.

"I've been in the General Assembly for 17 years and I've been chair of Joint Finance, but I'm looking at Wilmington's structural deficit and its crime problem...I'm the guy and I think I can fix it."

Williams says his years as a police officer will help him tackle Wilmington's crime problem, and his years on the budget writing Joint Finance Committee in Dover makes him the most qualified person to deal with the city's budget.

Williams also believes bringing new businesses to the city while helping those already there will be a key to the city's success.

"We're going to roll out the red carpet, we're going to work double time to work with the existing structures, the existing businesses and we're going to come up with a comprehensive plan for tr the city of Wilmington. And we're going to bring in some people...I don't care if they're from all over this country, who've made other cities successful."

Leading up to this year's elections, Allan Loudell will speak with the other candidates for mayor of Wilmington, as well as the candidates for many other offices throughout the state.
