Friday night storms in Delaware cause power outages

A second round of storms blew through Delaware very late Friday night following a scorching hot day in the first state.
Preliminary storm reports from the National Weather Service reported 70mph wind gusts in Middletown and Harrington, with one observer reporting 1.75 inch hail in the Newark area.
As of 1am Saturday, Delmarva Power reported about 23,000 customers in New Castle County were in the dark, along with 8,000 in Cecil County, and another 2,400 in Kent County, Delaware.
Of those numbers, about 11,000 were in the dark in the M.O.T. area of southern New Castle County.

Downed trees were also reported in the storm, with several falling across Route 13 Southbound in Odessa, forcing the shutdown of the road at 299, with all traffic being diverted towards Route 1.
A round of storms had hit Delaware at around 5am Friday, with about 5,000 customers in New Castle County effected by that line of heavy weather.
