Have you ever witnessed a crime in Wilmington? If so, did you report it? Why or why not? Those are the types of questions in which Brad Siegfried seeks the answers.
But what's surprising him the most is 94-percent of those surveyed say they'd like to have more access to crime reports in their neighborhood, and if they had that information they'd make different decisions.
"There have certainly been a few echoing the idea that we need to get more information shared, more two-way communication between the police department, and people in the neighborhoods," says Siegfried.

Siegfried, who's also the president of the 7th District Neighborhood Planning Council, presented his survey at a recent Wilmington City Council public safety committee meeting, and hopes more people will take the public safety survey by: clicking here
"So I'm hoping that people will step up and get involved not look for necessarily somebody else to address the problem, but ask yourself, what can I do?" Siegfried says.

Siegfried says the problem he sees is that enacting positive change takes a lot longer than it should. He says having a good idea isn't enough, you need to stick with it. He points to wireless security cameras in Little Italy, an effort he advocated for that took at least five years to accomplish.
"This is an opportunity for people to express their views, and there's no time like the present so with that information in hand, I think that will be more compelling for people with the authority to act to do it," he says.

The public safety survey is open-ended, and you take it, you can view the results and see what others have said.
