Inmates at women's prison bond with dogs
Inmates at the Baylor women's prison in Delaware are learning how to raise the woof.
A small group of inmates have recently become dog caregivers in a new program called Baylor's Assisted Re-socialization for K-9s, or BARK.
The program involves inmates working with dogs from the Kent County SPCA to help the animals become more social and learn basic obedience skills.
Officials say the program, which they planned to show to the media on Friday, improves dogs' chances for adoption while offering a therapeutic diversion for prison inmates.
The initial group of four dogs to participate in the program is scheduled to graduate next week after spending the past two months living in one of the prison's housing units and being taken care of by a group of 11 inmates.
