Delmarva: Hot weather stresses electrical system

Is the hot weather stressing you out this week? Delamarva Power reminds you that high temperatures also take a toll on the electrical transmission system.

High electricity use combined with high temperatures can also affect transformers, which are designed to shut down automatically to prevent permanent damage.

Power lines and other equipment weakened by lightning strikes can also be more likely to fail during peak demand periods.

Likovich says there's an adequate energy supply to meet customer demands, but customers can help lighten the load on the system by following energy-saving suggestions you can see by clicking here.
