Delaware's AD accepts post at Stanford
By Sean Greene

UD Athletic Dir. Bernard Muir
Delaware Athletic Director Dr. Bernard Muir has been named the new AD at Stanford University as of September 1.

Dr. Muir started at Delaware in 2009, replacing long-time AD Edgar Johnson. Before Delaware, Muir worked at Notre Dame from 1992-2000, and was the Athletics Director at Georgetown from 2005-2009.

The former athlete at Brown, was just the fourth person to hold the position of director of athletics at UD since 1940. In addition to his duties as director, Muir served as the primary sports administrator for Blue Hens men's and women's basketball, football and softball.

Delaware President Patrick Harker was unavailable for comment, but said in a written statement: "Bernard's focus on student-athlete success on and off the field has had a prominent impact on the University. In addition to encouraging increased competitiveness of Blue Hen varsity sports, Bernard has been responsible for the major addition of new volleyball and basketball facilities at The Bob, and he has led what can be considered one of the most significant enhancements to student recreation services with the initiation of the facility improvement project at the Carpenter Sports Building.

"He has provided UD a national presence as a member of the board of directors of USA Basketball, as a member of the NCAA Division I men's basketball committee, and in helping secure first and second round games in the 2013 NCAA Division I women's basketball championship tournament on our campus," Harker said. "I wish Bernard all the best as he embarks on an exciting new chapter in his career at Stanford University."

Samantha Huge, currently the Deputy AD, has been promoted to Interam AD as Delaware searches for Muir's successor.
