Wilmington police say 30-year-old Brian Brown was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt pulled over his head when he entered the 7-11 on Greenhill Avenue around 6:23 a.m. Sunday morning. Investigators say he jumped over the counter and pointed a black gun at the clerk while demanding money.
Police say he then assaulted the clerk and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and fled. Officers searching for the suspect spotted Brown operating a black Kia Rio in the area of W. 7th and N. DuPont Streets and stopped the vehicle.
Brown allegedly struggled with both officers who tried to arrest him. They were treated at Wilmington Hospital for minor injuries.
Police found a pellet gun in the vehicle along with additional evidence that linked Brown, who was a parolee and also wanted on an outstanding burglary warrant, to the robbery. Thirty-year-old April Stiner, a passenger in the vehicle, later confessed to driving the getaway car.
The two are being held pending arraignment and bail information is not yet available. Charges include 1st degree robbery, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a Felony, resisting arrest and 2nd degree assault of a law enforcement officer.
