Delaware Military Academy won the first 15 points of the second set, part of an impressive three-set sweep over host St. Elizabeth Monday night.
Cassie Kowalski opened the second set on the service line for the Seahawks, and stayed there for a while thanks to 3 aces and several kills by middle-hitter Grace McCarthy. St. Elizabeth responded by winning the next seven points, and ultimately cut the lead to 18-12, but could get no closer in dropping the set 25-15.
DMA had taken a 1-set-to-none lead after rallying from a brief 8-7 early deficit thanks to a Rachel Weyd block. Her rejection started a 6-2 run, and St. E could get no closer than 2 points the rest of the way, falling 25-21.
In the 3rd set St. Elizabeth took an early 2-0 lead, but again a long run, this time 11-2 by DMA put the Seahawks in control, and Kowalski's kill down the line on match point put an exclamation point on DMA's 9th win of the season.
DMA will look to improve to 10-2 Tuesday when they face winless Howard.
The schedule doesn't get easier for the Vikings, as they host undefeated St. Mark's Thursday and travel to Ursuline on Saturday night.
