A late-season hurricane is battering the Bahamas and could slam directly into the Delmarva Peninsula.

Forecasters are calling the Category 2 storm the "Halloween nightmare," with a direct hit along the East Coast some time Monday into Tuesday.

The storm's exact track is still unpredictable, but it could easily hit the Delmarva Peninsula. But no matter where she hits, AccuWeather meteorologist Bob Smerbeck says have no doubt, she'll be fierce.

"It could bring devastation as far as major coastal storm surge flooding, damaging winds, and lots of power outages, and just torrential rains causing flooding, so this is a very serious potential threat here," explains Smerbeck.

The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center says southern Delaware could begin feeling the effects of the storm as early as Sunday midday. Sandy could also meet a cold front that could lead to days of heavy rains, winds and flooding for Sussex.
