The Red Cross says more than 500 people stayed in shelters opened up Sunday night in Delaware and more than 500 meals were served.

New Castle County
William Penn High School, 113 Basin Road, New Castle, DE 19720
Middletown High School, 120 Silver Lake Road, Middletown, DE 19709

Kent County shelters are Dover High School and Smyrna Middle School.

And in Sussex County, there are shelters at Cape Henlopen High School, Indian River High School and Milford Middle School.

You can take your pets with you to any of those shelters EXCEPT Indian River High School.

If you head to a shelter, it'll be like a camping trip, not a hotel. Bring your own sheets, blankets, pillows and any air mattress or cot you may want, as you'll be sleeping on the floor. Also bring medications and personal hygiene items.

Meals will be provided, but not snacks, so bring those if you like. Also, bring any special foods you have for dietary needs.

It's suggested that you bring copies of important documents like insurance information, birth certificates and medical records. Finally, bring something to do - books, games, toys for children, and other items to pass the time.
