Democratic incumbent Tom Carper easily outdistanced Republican, Independent and Green Party challengers to win re-election to a third U.S. Senate term.
Carper got 66.5% of the vote compared to Republican Kevin Wade's 29%; and in his victory speech, Carper said America's overcome past challenges, and will weather its current difficulties.
"This is a country that survived the Civil War, this is a country that survived the Great Depression, this is a country that won not one, but two world wars, this is a country that won the Cold War," he said.
In an upbeat concession speech, Wade told supporters Delaware is slowly moving from the blue to the red column.
"It's a day-by-day, month-by-month, year-by-year thing, chopping wood--to slowly, slowly move the state back in a direction, where I think we offer greater opportunity for everyone," says Wade.
Carper closed his speech out by joking, "If I had more time, I'd do some push-ups," directed at defeated Independent candidate Alex Pires, who claimed Carper had health problems.
Pires got about 4% of vote, and Green Party Candidate Andrew Groff got about 1%.
