Updated Sunday, November 11, 2012 - 10:27pm
Middletown and St. Georges Tech have earned the top seeds for the DIAA State Football tournaments which begin Friday night.
Middletown (10-0), the defending Division I champions, and Salesianum (9-1) have both earned byes through to the semifinal round. They will await the winners of the two quarterfinal games, which feature No. 6 Cape Henlopen (8-2) travelling to face No. 3 St. Mark's (8-2) Friday at 7:30 and No. 5 Sussex Central's rematch with No. 4 Caesar Rodney Saturday at 7:30.
The Cavs would face the lowest remaining team after the first two games while the Sals would get the higher ranked team.
Division II expanded to eight teams this year, so all teams will play in the opening round. St. Georges earned its first ever top seed after an undefeated regular season, and will face No. 8 Archmere (7-3) Saturday night at Caravel at 7:30. St. Georges was not granted a home game "due to a lack of visitor's seating and ability to control access to the stadium."
Archmere was tied with Delmar for the 8th seed, but advanced on the second tiebreaker of opponent's wins (52 to 46).
