State Police say a South Jersey couple were in the car that burst into flames when it was hit by an SUV on Route 273 at Appleby Road last Thursday afternoon.

Police say 64-year-old Olaf and Gail Horton of Bridgeton, Cumberland County were pronounced dead at the scene after the crash.

John Quigley of Newark was driving the SUV that slammed into the Hortons' car around 3 PM, after Quigley had left the scene of a minor crash on 273 at Route 1.

The Hortons' car was pushed into the back of a pickup truck, and burst into flames as it stopped in the 273/Appleby Road intersection.

The pickup truck's occupants weren't hurt.

Quigley is in serious condition at Christiana Hospital, and police are investigating whether he had a medical problem that led to the crash.
