In the wake of a string of burglaries and burglary attempts last week, County Police are out with tips designed to keep your house from being targeted.

The crimes happened in several Brandywine Hundred communities, usually during the day, while residents were away from their homes.

Police say to stay safe from burglars, you should close and lock all your home's doors and windows, and use deadbolt door locks with at least a one-inch throw.

Make sure first-floor window air-conditioning units can't be easily removed, and display your house number prominently.

You should also install lighting at all entrances, and trim back overgrown trees and shrubs from window ledges.
