DNREC fines DuPont for alleged hazardous waste violations
By Frank Gerace

DNREC has fined DuPont more than 14-thousand dollars for alleged hazardous waste management violations at its Newark facility and air quality violations at its Edge Moor plant in Wilmington.

DNREC says DuPont didn't properly label and close containers of hazardous waste, universal waste and used oil at the company's synthetic rubber mechanical seal manufacturing plant on Marrows Road in Newark in September of last year.

The agency also charges DuPont also didn't transfer waste from a leaking container to a sound one, didn't keep proper waste disposal records, didn't conduct weekly inspections or maintain an adequate contingency plan, and operated a hazardous waste storage facility without a permit.

DuPont has 30 days to appeal.
