Markell hails state's judicial selection procedure in weekly address
By Frank Gerace

Governor Jack Markell (D)
Governor Markell touted Delaware's judicial selection process in his weekly address, broadcast on WDEL.

In the speech, Markell said unlike some other states where judges are elected, Delaware attorneys who want to be judges submit applications to the judicial nominating commission.

"That commission reviews the applications, interviews the candidates, and then sends to me a number of candidates for each slot. I then also interview the candidates, and then send the names on to the state Senate, where they're either confirmed or not confirmed."

Markell says Delaware's judiciary says a lot about its people, because justice "is at the very core of who we are as Americans."
