Hornet's guard Amere May hit a game-tying three-pointer with five seconds left in regulation to force an overtime period that led to Delaware State University beating upstate rival University of Delaware Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Hens got out to an early lead, riding early momentum for a 7-0 lead five minutes into the first period. However, Delaware couldn't hold the lead, and DSU pulled even with 8:36 left in the half when they tied the game at 17 apiece.

The lead changed seven times during the period, but the Hornets held a one point advantage over the Hens by a score of 31-29 heading into halftime.

The break didn't stifle DSU's momentum in the 2nd period--the Hornets held a 47-40 lead with 11:32 left in the period.

The Hens would rally though, eventually taking a 58-57 lead on Devon Saddler's jumper with :48 seconds left. The lead would grow to 60-57 after two subsequent free throws shot by Terrell Rogers.

However, May's equalizer would erase the lead and shifted momentum back in the Hornet's favor. DSU forward Tyshawn Bell scored the first points of overtime on a three-pointer and DSU held the lead throughout to finish off the win.

DSU's Tahj Tate was the Hornet's highest scorer with 24 points in the win. The Hens' Devon Saddler scored a team-best 16 points in the losing effort.
