A Newark man is charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.

State Police say an investigation involving heroin sales led them to arrest Gerardo Hernandez of the 2400 block of Olden Avenue on Friday morning.

Police found 4,048 bags of heroin, $5,090 in cash, a .40 caliber Ruger handgun, and a loaded large-capacity rifle magazine in the 19-year-old's bedroom.

Hernandez is being held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $50,000 cash bail.
