New Castle County Police are investigating a two vehicle crash that has claimed the life of a 61 year old New Castle man.
On Friday night around 7:45, County Police responded to Wilton Boulevard and Candlewick Court for a two vehicle crash.
Several individuals were suffered injuries as a result of the crash.
Police also learned that a rear passenger of the vehicle that had been struck, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The injured occupants were then transported by ambulance personnel to the Christiana Hospital.
The driver of the Mazda, a 30 year old New Castle man, and two other male passengers from New Castle, along with the 31 year old driver of the striking vehicle, who was later identified as Jesus Juarez-Perez from Bear, were all treated at the hospital for minor injuries and released.
The investigation revealed the vehicle, driven by Jesus Juarez-Perez, was traveling northbound on Wilton Boulevard, while the red Mazda MZ6, driven by a 30 year old New Castle man, was traveling southbound, when the Jetta moved left of center, crossing a double yellow line, and collided head-on with the Mazda at the intersection of Candlewick Court.
According to investigators, alcohol and weather conditions are thought to be contributing factors in the crash.
The rear passenger of the Mazda has been identified as Thomas Moore, a 61 year old male from the unit block of Freeport Road in the community of Stratford in New Castle, DE.
Jesus Juarez-Perez was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide in the second degree and two counts of vehicular assault in the third degree.
He was arraigned and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute after failing to post $12,000 cash bail.
