With all the talk in Dover about legalizing gay marriage in Delaware, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington is reminding the state about its definition of marriage.

Bishop Francis Malooly is out with a pastoral letter on marriage that says the matrimonial covenant is solely a union between a man and a woman.

The Delaware Family Policy Council's stance is in line with the Catholic Church.

"We do not support marriage being defined as a gender-less union because if it's gender-less, then marriage automatically deprives a child of a loving mother and a father," says DFPC President Nicole Theis.

He says the sexual element of marriage, in the church's eyes, is intended to have children.

"Neither the mom or the dad is disposable in a child's life," Theis says.

Malooly also says that marriage is not a creature of the state, and Theis sees things the same way.

"We don't believe that government should redefine marriage because it's not government's to redefine. Marriage has always been defined by nature and nature's God," says Theis.
