Free diabetes prevention pilot program

The YMCA of Delaware is part of a national program to test whether it can help cut the cost of diabetes by preventing it.

The new pilot program partnership with Medicare will help more people in Delaware control their type 2 diabetes at no cost.

"Those that have Medicare Part A and B will be able to do the diabetes prevention program for free in Delaware," said Tricia Jefferson, Director of Healthy Living for the YMCA of Delaware.

Jefferson says Medicare is paying for Delawareans to take part in the Y's diabetes prevention program. Paige Seppanen of Newark says the year-long program works.

"I've lost 51 pounds and 20.4 percent of my body weight," he said.
