Thomas leads Delaware State past Howard
Albert Thomas scored 14 points to lead Delaware State to a 56-53 victory over Howard University to sweep the season series in the regular-season finale for both Saturday.
Tahj Tate added 13 points for the Hornets (13-15, 8-6 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who snapped a two-game skid. Delaware State defeated Howard 63-46 on Jan. 23.
Mike Phillips scored 16 points, Calvin Thompson 12 and Prince Okoroh 11 for the Bison (7-23, 4-12), who beat Maryland-Eastern Shore 49-45 on Monday to snap a four-game losing streak.
The Hornets won the game at the foul line, hitting 24 of 30 while Howard made 11 of 20.
Howard led 21-9 on Calvin Johnson's free throw with 8:02 left in the first half, but Delaware State closed to 27-22 at halftime.
Howard led 46-45 at 2:46, but Delaware State pulled ahead 47-46 on Tate's two free throws with 2:23 left and held on to win.
