Donte DiVincenzo scored 20 points in a physical offensive showing from #4 Salesianum that boosted the Sals to a 64-49 win over #13 Cape Henlopen in the second round of the DIAA Boys' Basketball state tournament.
Salesianum (18-3) got off to a strong start with eight first-quarter points from junior Brian O'Neill en route to a 17-7 lead after one period.
Most of DiVincenzo's scoring would occur in the 2nd Half, but the sophomore's one-handed dunk was among his four second quarter points. Sallies led 28-18 at halftime.
Cape was backed by strong shooting from junior Tyreik Burton in the 2nd half--he four three-pointers after halftime and finished with 19 points on the night. Toney Floyd also had 11 points for the Vikings.
However, DiVincenzo also caught fire in the 2nd half, scoring 16 points to help offset a rally by Cape Henlopen in the 3rd. Sallies led 43-55 after three periods.
O'Neill would also have seven points in the 4th Quarter to lift his point total on the night to 17 as the Sals rolled on to a 64-49 win.
Cape Henlopen drops to 13-9 on the season and is eliminated from the state tournament.
Salesianum improves its overall record to 18-3 including postseason play, and will play #12 Newark at St. Mark's Tuesday night.
