West Chester combats partying with quiet zones
Shh! Keep it down, West Chester!
The college town across the state line has begun installing 240 quiet zone signs as part of a new effort to crack down on partying. The signs tell people of a quiet zone in effect between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., with the threat of a $250 fine.
The Daily Local News reports installation began Tuesday, and Borough Manager Ernie McNeely says all the signs will be up in the coming weeks. The borough is home to West Chester University.
Borough council approved the signs last month.
The borough has a broad definition of a noise disturbance that includes any noise that endangers, disturbs or injures other people, or is likely to do so, or one that creates or is likely to create a nuisance.
