Red Lion defeats DMA for first win
By Augustus Patterson

Red Lion's softball team defeated Delaware Military Academy 5-1 to get their first win of the season Monday.

In the 3rd inning, Red Lion's Noelle Holiday hit a 2-run double to break a tie and make it 3-1 Lions. Meanwhile, Red Lion's pitcher Shannon Brantley kept the Seahawks in check forcing six ground outs in the 4th and 5th innings.

Brantley then helped her cause at the plate with an RBI single in the 5th to make it 4-1 Red Lions. She finished with 3 strikeouts on the day.

In the 6th inning, Caitlin Buckalew's screaming liner to left was misplayed, getting the junior over to third base. She later scored on a single. Buckalew was 1-2 with 1 run scored, while Holiday was 1-3 with 3 RBIs.

The Seahawks tried to mount a 7th inning rally with a 1-out single by Courtney Allin, but a pop out and fly out ended the hopes for DMA.

DMA pitcher Megan Thompson had 7 strikeouts, while Hannah Belair drove in Kylie Quirk for the Seahawks only run on the afternoon.

Red Lion will face Sussex Central on Saturday, while the Seahawks will take on Dickinson on Wednesday.
