By Tom Lehman 8:48pm, April 24, 2013Colonial School Board has approved staff reductions for the end of the school year resulting from the district's failed referendum.
Voters struck down a tax increase of 47 cents per $100 of assessed property value in February, and district officials say that means they'll have to cut 72 staff members.
That total includes 58 teachers, five para-professionals, five custodians, two secretaries and two specialists.
However, the district says it can lower the staff reductions and retain more than of those 45 teachers if voters approve a reduced referendum of 35 cents per $100 of assessed property value on June 4.
