Unwanted prescription drugs to be accepted Saturday
By Tom Lehman

If you have unwanted prescription drugs that need to be disposed, you can safely get rid of them as part of Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.

Emily Knearl with the Department of Health and Social Services says you can drop off unwanted or expired drugs at multiple locations throughout the state, which is better than putting them in the trash or flushing them down the toilet.

"Experience has shown when prescription drugs are thrown out in the environment they actually show up in our water supply and can cause pollution or even poisoning," Knearl.

Knearl also says disposing of unwanted prescription drugs will also help prevent children from obtaining them.

Needles won't be accepted at drop off sites.

You can see a full list of participating locations at the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency's Office of Diversion website.
