WDEL's Mellany Armstrong reports.
"It's a very tricky holiday for women who are living in transition from a violent home to a life yet unknown."
Lori Weinstein of Jewish Women International says that's why JWI created the Mother's Day Flower Project.
"We send a beautiful bouquet of flowers and OPI nail products sends a beautiful gift basket filled with beauty products," she said.
Tim Brandau of Child Inc. says 328 women and 145 children came to its two shelters in Delaware in 2012.
"We're dealing with people who are sometimes in the worst day of their life. Something awful has happened to them, and they need help immediately," he said.
Brandau says the flowers mean a lot.
"These are situations where probably no one else is going to recognize Mother's Day for these folks," Brandau said.
You can support the project by ordering a card for $25 to be delivered to a recipient of your choice on Mother's Day. Get more information by clicking here, or call 1-800-343-2823.
