Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, and Dom Brown each led off innings with home runs as rookie pitcher Jonathan Pettibone earned his second victory in a 4-1 win over the Marlins Friday night.
Marlins' starter Ricky Nolasco entered (2-3) with a 6-1 record in seven starts at Citizens Bank Park, but put himself in peril by giving up the leadoff shots in the 2nd (Howard's 5th), 3rd (Utley's 6th), and 4th (Brown's 5th).
Meanwhile, Pettibone (2-0) was solid in his second start at Citizens Bank Park, giving up just a 4th inning home run to Donovan Solano to scratch a 6 1/3 inning, 5-hit performance where he struck out 3 and didn't allow a walk.
Following Pettibone, Antonio Bastardo pitched into some trouble in the 7th inning loading the bases with a pair of walks, but worked out of it with strikeouts of pinch-hitters Austin Kearns and Matt Diaz. Mike Adams allowed a hit and walk but got out of the 8th, and Jonathan Papelbon slammed the door in the 9th for his 5th save in as many chances.
Besides the three home runs, the Phillies picked up the other run after Howard's homer in the 2nd inning, when Ben Revere drove in Carlos Ruiz for his 5th RBI of the season after the catcher singled and stole second base.
The victory improved the Phillies to 10-4 against the NL East this season, including 9-2 against the Mets (5-1) and Marlins (4-1).
Cole Hamels (1-3) takes the mound against Jose Fernandez (0-2) in game 3 of the four-game set Saturday night at 7:05.

Utley's 205th career home run moved him into 8th place on the Phillies all-time list passing Dick Allen... Nolasco lost at CBP for the first time since September 22, 2006, he had won his last five starts dating back to 2008... Howard has 4 home runs in his last 35 plate appearances after hitting just one in his first 78.
