New Bureau of Prisons Chief named

The Delaware Department of Correction has announced the appointment of Perry Phelps Chief of the Bureau of Prisons.

Commissioner Rob Coupe announced the appointment Monday, when it became effective. Phelps was formerly warden of the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna.

Phelps began his career in 1988 as a correctional officer at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington. He worked his way up to deputy warden.

Phelps succeeds Mike DeLoy, who retired.
