By Tom Lehman

Wilmington police say two convicted felons have been arrested after one them tried to run over an officer while fleeing a traffic stop.

It happened around 8:19 p.m. Tuesday night on the 200 block of N. Walnut Street, where police say two patrolmen spotted a car driving the wrong way.

Police say officers pulled the car over and tried to speak with Jamere Porter, who was driving the car.

Porter allegedly accelerated the vehicle and tried to run over one of the officers, but he was pulled out of the vehicle.

He and Justin Coleman, a passenger in the car, face drug and firearm charges after police also seized pot and a firearm they weren't allowed to have from the car.

Both Porter and Coleman have been committed to the Howard Young Correctional Facility in lieu of $16,000 cash bail.
