Dole may be shifting toward a New Jersey port.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the Dole Fresh Fruit Company is considering relocating one ship each week from the Port of Wilmington to a new port being built in Paulsboro, New Jersey.

That would be an estimated equivalent of 3.4 billion bananas a year. Dole is the Port of Wilmington's largest customer.

Delaware Economic Director Allan Levin tells the Inquirer that the state is trying to retain Dole. The company's lease at the Port of Wilmington expires in December 2015.
