An escapee from a Department of Correction work group was arrested by troopers Monday night following a vehicle pursuit that ended on the St. Georges bridge, state police said.

State police spokesman Paul Shavack said 18-year-old Mark Humberston, who was serving a sentence at the Central Violation of Probation Center in Smyrna, was caught after a pursuit that began in Dover around 10 p.m. His original charge had to do with firearm possession.

Troopers reportedly spotted Humberston driving a stolen vehicle as he passed by the State Police Headquarters on Route 13, Shavack said.

Humberston was then taken into custody on the southern part of the bridge in the Northbound lanes around 10:45 p.m.

Corrections officials said Humberston left his work crew detail around noon Monday in the Collins Beach area near Smyrna.

Authorities believe he burglarized a home on the 100 block of Walker School Road in Smyrna and may have taken a firearm.
