The University of Delaware's Trent Hurley connected with receiver Michael Johnson for three touchdown receptions to secure a 49-9 victory against the Wagner Seahawks at Delaware Stadium on a rainy Saturday evening.
The weather didn't stop the Blue Hens from bringing out the strong offense early.
With a little more than a minute into the game, Delaware struck first, when Hurley completed a 19-yard touchdown pass to Nick Boyle. Sean Baner's extra point was good and UD took the 7-0 lead.
Wagner (1-3) drove into Blue Hen territory on the next possession but couldn't convert on third and long. David Lopez kicked a field goal, and the Seahawks trailed 7-3.
Wagner failed to score again, until the second half.
Hurley completed two touchdown passes to Johnson to lift the Hens 21-3 going into the second quarter. One pass was for 77-yards, while the other was a 21-yard touchdown.
In the second quarter, UD's Craig Brodsky intercepted a Matt Misley throw to set up Jalen Randolph's 14-yard rushing touchdown with 12:26 left to go in the half.
Johnson chipped in his third receiving touchdown with more than five minutes remaining, and Andrew Pierce closed out the half with 7-yard touchdown to give the Blue Hens the comfortable 42-3 lead going into the locker room.
In the third, Trevor Sasek threw to Rob Jones for the 39 yard touchdown. Baner's kick is good, and UD extended the lead by 46 points.
The Seahawks would score its only touchdown in the fourth, when Brian Gehring rushed for 1 yard with 2:55 left to play.
Delaware (3-1) cruised to its third victory of the season and plays James Madison next Saturday at home. The Blue Hens are undefeated at Delaware Stadium.
