State troopers are investigating a fatal crash at the Dover toll plaza that fatally injured a Wilmington woman on Wednesday.

Police say 83-year-old Shirley Taylor was driving southbound on State Route 1 around 11:50 a.m. when for unknown reasons, her vehicle didn't stop for a rollback truck that was stopped behind another vehicle paying a toll.

Taylor's 2007 Honda Civic struck the truck's rear crash bar and rode up underneath the truck.

Police say she was extricated by mechanical means and transported to Kent General Hospital, where she later died from her injuries at 3:08 p.m.

Paul Leone of Moyock, N.C., who police say was driving the truck, was properly restrained and was taken to Kent General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the Kent County Emergency Operations Center also received calls regarding a maroon vehicle driving erratically on SR1.

The toll plaza was closed for two hours as police investigated the crash and cleared the area. The Express Lanes of SR1 remained open and tolls were suspended during that time.
