VIDEO: Highlights and Reaction to St. Mark's vs. Charter

St. Mark's won a tight opening set before cruising to a 3-0 non-conference victory over the Charter School of Wilmington Tuesday night.

Charter used an Olivia DiMaio ace, and a pair of blocks by Jordan Schoeneberger to claim a 19-15 lead in the opening set.

Megan Quinn's block helped spark a 9-2 St. Mark's response to put the hosts up 23-21. Following a Charter point, St. Mark's put an end to the first frame with setter Claudia Seemans' tricky over-on-two play and then fellow captain Abbie Mirabella's service winner on set point. St. Mark's won the set 25-22.

The momentum continued for the Spartans from there, as they raced out to 5-0, 9-1, and 12-2 leads finished off by Jenna Tomovich's block.

Charter pushed back, cutting the deficit to four twice, but a pair of Mirabella kills stretched the lead up to six, which ended up the margin in a 25-19 victory.

The final set again was tight, with the teams knotted at 18-18 before a match-ending 7-1 run where Mirabella ended five of the points with kills. The senior finished with 20 kills on the night.

St. Mark's (6-1) collected 18 digs from Lauren Sorantino and 13 more from Peyton Reno. Seemans added a rare kill and block to her 36 assists.

Charter (7-1) dropped its first match despite eight kills by DiMaio and Schoeneberger.
