|Highlights of Newark vs A.I. duPont football game|
The rainy weather conditions didn't stop the A.I. duPont football team from controlling a Blue Hen Flight A conference game Friday night.
The Tigers' quarterback Freddie Heard scored three rushing touchdowns and threw for one touchdown reception to lead A.I. to a 49-7 victory.
A.I. (4-2) scored first, when Aaron Limberry rushed for an 8 yard touchdown with seven minutes left in the opening quarter.
Anthony Christopher carried for a 72 yard touchdown followed by a two point conversion from Heard to extend the Tigers' lead 15-0.
Heard rushed for a 1 yard touchdown and a 47 yard touchdown and threw to Quadree Henderson to keep Newark scoreless at the half. The Tigers led 36-0 at the break.
In the third, Heard scored his third touchdown of the game, when he forced himself in the end zone for the 9 yard carry.
Newark (2-4) scored its only touchdown of the game, when Eric Wright ran for a 56 yard touchdown.
Just when the Yellowjackets gained good field position and had another opportunity to score, Henderson intercepted a pass and returned the ball all the way down field for the 86 yard touchdown to end the third quarter.
It was a scoreless fourth, and A.I.'s kicker Kyle Phillips was perfect on five attempts.
Fumbles and turnovers didn't allow Newark to ever come within reach, as A.I. had possession the majority of the game.
A.I. has now outscored opponents 228-115 this season. The Tigers travel to Middletown next week for an important challenge, while Newark hosts its Homecoming against Appoquinimink next Friday.
