South Bethany party lands MD Attorney General in hot water

Failing to report underage drinking at a South Bethany house party is the charge against a Maryland politician.

A photo of 50-year-old Attorney General Doug Gansler amongst a group of teens clutching red Solo cups from 'beach week' last June has surfaced.

The Daily Mail reports Gansler's son Sam was also at the party with some classmates celebrating high school graduation.

Michael Dresser, of The Baltimore Sun, tells WDEL a South Bethany rental hosted the party, possibly unbeknownst to the owner.

"Delaware, I know, has a longstanding problem with so-called June bugs, and there are some real indications here that the property owners did not know that they were renting to a party of this type," says Dresser.

Dresser adds the kids were required to sign a list of rules created by their parents, one of such rules prohibited anyone bringing hard liquor or controlled substances into the house, pointedly neglecting beer and wine.

Now, Gansler - who is running for governor of Maryland - is being asked by his constituents why he didn't call police and report the party.

While Gansler initially said he didn't call the cops because the party wasn't under his roof, Dresser says Gansler has changed his tune.

"He has since come back in a news conference and said that - you know - he was wrong about that, he probably should have done more," Dresser says.

Dresser says there's still more to this story.

"There are still a lot of unanswered questions about this incident. Some people in Delaware may have information on that that we could use, certainly I invite people who know about that incident to contact The Baltimore Sun," says Dresser.
