A.I. duPont and Concord both knew how important it was to pull out a conference victory entering Friday night's game, as the regular season finale is quickly approaching.
The Raiders (4-4) bounced back from a tough loss against William Penn and cruised to a 34-11 victory against the Tigers.
Concord's Matthew Mellette opened scoring in the first with a two yard rushing touchdown. Mariano Di Gabriele's kick was good and the Raiders gained the early 7-0 lead.
A.I.'s Kyle Phillips kicked a short field goal with 4:41 left in the second quarter to put the Tigers on the board. The Raiders held on to a 7-3 lead by the half.
The Tigers (4-4) opened the third with a long return from A.I.'s Quadree Henderson that brought the Tigers all the way to the Concord 20 yard line, but A.I. couldn't do anything with the great field position.
On the following drive, Concord fumbled the ball. A.I. recovered and managed to make it all the way down to the red zone but again was unable to score.
The Raiders closed out the third quarter with a 60 yard rushing touchdown from Brycen Alleyne to lift Concord 14-3.
In the final quarter, Mellette scored his second touchdown of the night with 9:15 left to play. Di Gabriele's kick was good to make it a 21-3 game. A.I.'s quarterback Freddie Heard dropped the football on the next drive and Thomas Camper took it to the end zone for another Raiders' touchdown.
A.I. scored its first touchdown of the night with 5:34 left in the game. Heard held on to the football for the keeper. The two-point conversion was successful, but the Tigers still trailed 27-11.
It wouldn't be enough for the Tigers on its Homecoming, as the Raiders' Brian Dennis scored another quick touchdown for 25 yards to seal the victory.
Concord has two more games remaining, both conference games against Appoquinimink and Newark, while A.I. has to go head-to-head against Charter next week and then Glasgow.
