State Troopers are investigating a car crash on Kirkwood Highway in Wilmington which killed an 18-year-old pedestrian.

Police say 18-year-old Nigel Simon, Jr., of Newark, was attempting to cross the roadway at 6:00 p.m. Friday evening, when he was hit by a 2006 Toyota Sienna being driven by 45-year-old Natalie Nelson, of Hockessin.

Investigators say the victim was then thrown into the opposing lanes of the highway, and hit by a 2011 Ford F-250 being operated by 48-year-old Kurt Schoell, of Wilmington.

Simon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Simon was not using a crosswalk.

All of the westbound lanes were closed, and the eastbound lanes were partially closed for 2.5 hours after the accident.
