70-year-old victim robbed outside casino by NJ man

An elderly man is robbed leaving the casino, and State Police say they have caught the suspect responsible.

Investigators say the 70-year-old victim was leaving the Delaware Park Casino at 2 A-M Saturday morning through the underground pedestrian tunnel, en route to the parking lot, when he was grabbed from behind by the suspect.

Reports say the suspect implied he had a handgun and demanded the senior turn over his wallet. When the victim refused, the suspect removed the wallet from his pants pocket himself, leading to a physical struggle before the suspect fled on foot.

Troopers alerted of the robbery saw the suspect running away nearby.

After a foot chase, police arrested 33-year-old Jason Payne, of Mullica Hill, New Jersey.

The victim's wallet and cash were recovered, apparently thrown away by Payne before he was taken into custody.

Payne was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $51,000 Secured Bond.
