Shoplifters steal body wash, arrested in chance traffic stop

In a chance traffic stop, two men are arrested for robbery after nine bottles of body wash disappear from store shelves.

New Castle County Police say the received a call around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night reporting a shoplifter stole body wash from a business on Landers Lane in New Castle.

A nearby officer pulled over a car, unrelated to the robbery, intersection of New Castle Avenue and Castle Hills Drive.

Police say the man in the passenger seat matched a suspect description of the convenience store robbery, and nine bottles of body wash were in plain sight.

The passenger, 39-year-old Benjamin Mobley, of the unit block of Thorn Lane in New Castle, has been charged with robbery in the second degree and conspiracy in the second degree.

The driver, who investigators say was Mobley's accomplice in the robbery, 54-year-old Alvin Welborn, of the unit block of Katrin Circle in New Castle, is also charged.

Officers say three morphine pills were discovered on Welborn.

Both were arraigned and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institute.
