A fire official says a man and several dogs have died in a house fire in the Elmhurst community, near Elsmere.

Five Points Fire Company deputy chief Paul Shavack tells The News Journal that the fire was reported around 1 p.m. Saturday. He says firefighters found an unresponsive man on the first floor. First responders performed CPR, and the man was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Shavack says an adult pit bull and puppies were also killed in the fire.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire, which was placed under control in about 40 minutes.
