Markell: FY'10 budget contains 1000 job cuts
By Frank Gerace

Governor Markell says he'll present a balanced budget to the General Assembly for Fiscal Year 2010, in part because the state will have a thousand or so fewer employees.

Markell says eliminating the mostly-vacant positions will mean big savings for the state--about 13 and three-quarters million dollars for FY2010 and even more after that, because the savings will be spread out through the entire year.

Most of the cuts are coming from the departments of Correction and Health and Social Services, but Markell says jobs are being eliminated across the board.

He says personnel costs are the largest expense in the state budget.
