Attempted robbery at El Amigo Market in Wilm.
By Tom Lehman

A would-be robber armed with a gun fled empty-handed after a struggle with employees at a convenience store on the Wilmington city limits, city police said.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the El Amigo Market, located at 707 S. Union Street, near the city's border with Elsmere.

Police say a man entered the store and displayed a handgun and went behind the counter to confront the employees.

The 61-year-old and 23-year-old workers struggled with the suspect, who fled from the store without any proceeds.

The gunman is described as black, 6 feet 2 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black puffy vest, dark long sleeve shirt, blue jeans and a black ski mask at the time of the robbery.

Anyone with information can call the Wilmington Police Criminal Investigations Division at (302) 576-3620 or the Confidential Tip Line at (302) 576-3990.
