By Joe Irizarry 2:51pm, February 14, 2014 - Updated 2:53pm, February 14, 2014As part of his third annual Valentines for Vets program, Congressman Carney with the help of students from one school hand out Valentine's Day cards to veterans at the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford.
WDEL's Joe Irizarry has more.
Congressman Carney joined with students from Epworth Christian School in Laurel handing out a Valentine's Day card to the eldest woman at the home, 99-year-old Edith Tomlin.
Carney says as great as it was to see the veterans reaction, the main goal of the day was to connect the students with them.
"The key part is really connecting the students with the veterans, so helping students understand and appreciate the service that these vets have given to the country and how important it is to them to recognize that and show their appreciation," says Congressman Carney.
Carney and the students handed out Valentine's Day cards from students from all over Delaware including Mispillion and Ross Elementary Schools in Milford.
