As you were clearing the snow off your car over and over this season, DelDOT was busy clearing almost 200 miles of sidewalks, as well as the 89 percent of Delaware's roadways it maintains--and it hasn't come cheap.

Not counting our most recent snowstorm on Thursday, the total cost to get the job done was more than $10.3 million. Included in that figure is the cost for salt, subdivisions, sidewalks, fuel, equipment, supplies, overtime and contracted help.

It cost the state nearly $5 million to use almost 69 tons of salt. Workers have put in nearly 66,000 hours of overtime to help get snow out of our way.
