Fourth quarter effort lifts Sanford to victory

Sanford's boys basketball team held Hodgson to only three points in the final quarter and came from behind to beat the Silver Eagles 53-40 in a regular season finale.
Hodgson opened its Senior Night on a 6-0 run with the help of seniors' Bilal Nichols and Matt Peel.
Sanford's Todd Hughes got things going for the Warriors, when he scored the first six points. Mikey Dixon also helped out the cause with two 3-pointers, but Sanford still trailed 17-12 at the end of the first.
The Warriors opened the second on a slight run and took its first lead with a Jacob Walsh lay up.
At halftime, the score was knotted at 21 a piece.
In the third, L.J. Stansbury helped lift the Silver Eagles to a 29-22 lead, but Sanford continued to knock on Hodgson's door when Eric Ayala finished the third quarter with two three's.
Going into the final quarter, Sanford trailed by two points. But Dixon opened the fourth with a lay up to tie the game.
Sanford never looked back from that moment on because Anthony Mosley and Shomi Edeki got in the action and scored their only points (six a piece) in the final quarter.
Sanford tightened up their defense late in the game and held Hodgson to a jumper and a free throw. Sanford outscored Hodgson 18-3 in the fourth.
Dixon led Sanford with 16 points. Hughes added 14, and Hodgson was led by Nichols with 14 points.
Hodgson fell to 13-7, while Sanford improved to 14-6.
