Two people are critically injured in a head-on crash west of Milford Friday night.

State Police investigating the crash say, for an undetermined reason, a westbound 2010 Dodge Ram on Milford Harrington Highway collided with an eastbound 2007 Mazda MX3 around 11 p.m.

The impact caused the Dodge to overturn, and the Mazda caught fire.

Troopers say a passerby pulled the two women in the Mazda out before the car became engulfed in flames. Both women, identified as 24-year-old Lisa Figgs and 24-year-old Meredith Pase, were transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Police say the driver of the Dodge, 43-year-old Stephen Meyers, of Harrington, was not injured.

Investigators say alcohol does not appear to be a factor, and no charges have been filed.

A portion of Route 14 was closed for four hours while police investigated and cleared the scene.
