Hamrick's 39 points lift St. Georges to OT win

St. Georges forward Lamar Hamrick scored 39 points to lead the Hawks to a 69-66 overtime victory over No. 2 Sanford.
The second DIAA semifinal of the day started well for the 10th seeded Hawks, as they scored the first 8 points of the game, and led 18-13 after the 1st quarter.
Sanford would rally back to claim a 2-point lead at the half, and the game mostly remained close the rest of the way.
St. Georges trailed 58-56 with 13 seconds remaining when they inbounded to Hamrick, who proceeded to nearly lose control of the ball. He quickly recovered, drove around two defenders, and got a layup to fall to tie the game forcing overtime.
The Hawks would have 3 players foul out, but Hamrick scored 5 of his team's 11 points in the extra frame, again getting a driving layup to take the lead at 67-66. Teammate Darrall Mosley's only points of the night came on a slam that created the final score.
The loss snaps four straight trips to the state finals for Sanford, who picked up 26 points and 12 rebounds from Todd Hughes.
St. Georges, who collected 12 points from Quenton Hamrick off the bench, advances to face Cape Henlopen Thursday at 6:30pm.
